Popeyes, a popular restaurant based in New Orleans, USA, will soon re-enter the local market after forging a deal with Kuya J Holdings Group Inc., the owner and operator of Kuya J restaurants in the country.

“We are proud to partner with Popeyes to launch and develop this great brand in the Philippines. The Philippines is a large and growing market, and we are looking forward to serving the high-quality food that Popeyes offers to the country’s more than 100 million people,” read a statement from Popeyes in an article posted at Business Wire’s webpage.
Lowell Yu, chairman of Kuya J Group, on the other hand, said: “We are proud to partner with Popeyes to launch and develop this great brand in the Philippines. The Philippines is a large and growing market, and we are looking forward to serving the high-quality food that Popeyes offers to the country’s more than 100 million people.”
The terms of the agreement between the two companies were not disclosed.
Popeyes was founded in New Orleans in 1972 and has been in the scene for 40 years now.
It is known for its New Orleans-style menu which features: spicy chicken, chicken tenders, fried shrimp, and other regional items.
Popeyes has over 2,900 branches in the US and around the world. It has entered the Philippine market before when the Vitarich group managed the company. Moreover, reports said in 2001, American franchiser AFC Enterprises Inc. allegedly terminated the contract which caused Popeyes to stop operating in the country.
Kuya J restaurants, on the other hand, is known for serving Filipino dishes, most notable of which are: crispy pata, kare-kare and caldereta. The company also owns and operates concept stores like Isla Subu Seafood City, Tsay Cheng Chinese Cuisine, Majestic and Grand Convention Center of Cebu.
