Ilocos Norte-Shandong development projects

By Freddie Lazaro LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte -- Officials from the Chinese province of Shandong are scheduled to visit Ilocos Norte this week to discuss various projects on infrastructure, agriculture and trade industry. The delegation, led by Wu Cuiyun, vice chairman of the Shandong Committee of the Chinese People’s Consultative Conference, will also have representatives from Department of Commerce, Department of Research, and Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. The Chinese delegation will meet with members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan or Provincial Board, led by Vice Governor Angelo M. Barba and Senior Board Member Matthew M. Manotoc. “Because of the advancement of technology, we might be getting some technology or information that could enhance their areas of preference in the province, which are also our areas of preference – agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, and trades or business,” Carino said. Last year, another delegation from Shandong, led by Vice Governor Wang Junmin, donated three rice milling machines worth P1.5 million following a visit to the Chinese Rice Hybrid Plantation in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. Ilocos Norte and Shandong became sister provinces in 2002. Governor Imee R. Marcos has continually harnessed this global linkage to provide better quality of life for her constituents.
