By Merlina Hernando-Malipot The complaint against the “five-minute” couple who went viral after an altercation with traffic enforcers have been forwarded to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) for action, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday said. In a press briefing, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said that the complaint of MMDA against the motorist – who was later identified as motorist Christine Villamora Estepa, a prosecutor in DOJ – has already received LTO and DOJ for further action. (screengrabbed from Gadget Addict/ Facebook/ MANILA BULLETIN) “We just did our job,” Garcia said. “Naawa din kami sa kanila dahil sa sobrang pangba-bash but, of course kailangan nilang pagbayaran yung nagawa nila,” he added. While the couple already issued an apology to MMDA, he said that they pushed through with the administrative complaint and the recommendation to revoke the motorist’s license. “Yung apology nila, tinanggap naman namin, wala naman personalan but still, kahit nag-sorry na sila, we still need to do this na mag-complain, part din ng trabaho namin yan na ituloy yung reklamo,” Garcia explained. “Nasa LTO and DOJ na kung ano po ang magiging hatol sa kanila,” he added. LESSON TO EVERYONE Meanwhile, Garcia expressed optimism that the incident will serve as a lesson for all motorists. “I hope that this will be a lesson to everyone, if there’s a simple traffic violation, just give your license, less talk para walang pagtatalo,” Garcia said. He noted, however, that the motorist still has the right to ask for the identification of the enforcer, the mission order and to ask what the possible violation. “If you think that you did not do the violation, you just surrender your license and come here to our office and you can file a complaint,” Garcia said in a mix of English and Filipino. “If our enforcers are rude, we welcome you to report them, we need the participation of all so we can clean our ranks,” he added. “We hope this serves a lesson for everyone, marami nang buhay ang nasira dahil sa spur of the moment na init ng ulo so sana sumunod na lang kayo ng tama at kung alam ninyo na nagkamali kayo, magpa-ticket kayo at maapektuhan ang pamilya ninyo,” Garcia said. Meanwhile, the MMDA also called on bashers to stop cyber bullying. “Sana huwag natin gamitin ang social media para makapanira ng isang tao, isipin din natin kapag sa atin nangyari iyan, lahat tayo nagkakamali,” Garcia ended. The video of Estepa having a row with MMDA supervising operations official Bong Nebrija has gone viral after she refused to surrender her driver's license over a simple parking violation. She and her husband, who was also caught on video, have been receiving backlash on social media for their “arrogance.”
