Dream stays strong for comedy actress

Netizens have seen Jes Dizon host the digital segment of ABS-CBN’s “Starhunt: The Kapamilya Grand Auditions.” But little do they know she was Tita Miriam, the popular impersonator of the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago during the last Presidential elections. (Bakit, nagparetoke ba sya?!)

“I first impersonated her in 2013 then fast forward 2016, election time, we had to tap it in the ‘LIVE AIDS 31’ of UP SAMASKOM.
Medyo nahirapan ako because I had to improve the impersonation. Kahit naliligo ako pinapanood ko sya. I even listened to her voice before I sleep. I do this para ma-imprint talaga ’yung character nya sa pagkatao ko,” Jess shared. (Kulang nalang kumontak ng ispiritista ha!)
The 26-year-old Veda Artist is thankful that before the senator’s passing, she had the opportunity to be with her during the campaign.
“Her staff invited me for a meet-and-greet. Meeting her was like meeting my future self. Feeling kamukha ko talaga sya pagtanda ko. Kamukha rin sya ng mama ko!” (Si Piolo kaya papayag na future self ko?!)
Impersonating characters is one of the many talents of Jes. She has done several sketches in the past productions of UP SAMASKOM. (Boses ni Jaclyn Jose lang kaya ko gayahin!)
“My very first character was Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao. I have also done Dora, Pokemon, Darla and Jek Zyrus. But my favorite is Sheila Batchina Bolinao, a female OFW from China. The character is so me. Palaban! Walang inuurungan at may abs.. dati!” Jess recalled. (Nasan na ang abs? Kinain na ng sistema?!)
Jes’s current stint on “Star Hunt” reminds her that being in showbiz is different from acting on stage. “I also see myself as a Stardreamer. Nangangarap pero di alam paano abutin. Tamang timing lang talaga. Nagsimula ako bilang p.a., extra, taga tawa kasama ng bida. Pero nangangarap. Nagsusumikap. Susuka pero di susuko!” (Ay, pwedeng wala na ’yung pagsuka?!)
The University of the Philippines Diliman Architecture graduate is part of digital team The Comedy Pool that produces comedy videos online. (Ay, parang meron ako dyan ’yung ‘The FU TALK’ show!)
“My dream project is to have my own comedy variety show. Sa sobrang daming nangyayari ngayon, I want to make people laugh. Gusto ko makatulong in my own funny and creative way.” Jess said. (Sige mag Tita Miriam ka, ako mag Tito-Fu. Tito Fu?! Push!)
