CAMP RUPERTO KANGLEON, Palo, Leyte - Chief Supt. Dionardo B. Carlos formally assumed his post as new regional director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Eastern Visayas during simple rites at the PNP regional office here Monday morning.
Carlos replaced Chief Supt. Marielle Magaway who was relieved from his post last Friday morning, hours after some 100 fully armed New People's Army (NPA) rebels raided the Lapinig police station in Northern Samar.

Carlos said he personally visited the town of Lapinig last Saturday and inspected the town's police station.
He said an investigation is now ongoing.
“We will conduct a review para hindi na maulit ang ganitong insidente. We will also have an ocular inspection sa site dahil there is a security by design na dapat i-take advantage,” he said.
Carlos said he will be coordinating with the Philippine Army (PA) in Samar after, following a chance meeting in Tacloban City with Maj. Gen. Raul N. Farnacio, commanding general of the 8th Infantry Division.
He said the PNP in Eastern Visayas under his leadership will carry out the programs and thrust of PNP chief Director General Oscar D. Albayalde in making our country safe and peaceful.
Carlos said he will soon meet with local government unit officials in Eastern Visayas and hold a dialogue.
He added that he will actively seek the local leaders’ support in carrying out the PNP's programs and thrusts.
He also vowed constant dialogues with the local media and asked them to cover and report on the activities of the regional police force.
"I will carry out the programs and thrust of the PNP chief and I will be open to the local media and I invite you to go with me in my activities and report it to the public, " Carlos told members of the PNP- 8 Press Corps.
Carlos, former PNP spokesman and chief of the PNP Aviation Security Group, underscored the vital role of the media in reporting the programs and thrusts of the PNP as well as its activities, saying the PNP needs the media in disseminating vital information.
