DPWH building P150-M waste water facilities in Puerto Galera

By Jerry Alcayde PUERTO GALERA, Oriental Mindoro – Modern waste water treatment plants will be constructed in two popular tourist sites of this town with a budget allocation of P150 million from the national government. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons/ Manila Bulletin) (Photo via Wikimedia Commons/ Manila Bulletin) Puerto Galera Mayor Rockey Ilagan said the construction of a plant in Barangay Sabang was already started by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and that a second will follow in Barangay San Isidro, home to the famous White Beach. Each of these waste water treatment facilities is worth P100 million and funded from a grant of the national government subsidy program for the implementation of sewerage or septage management projects for first class municipalities. The one in Sabang already has a P50-million fund with the DPWH or a 50-percent subsidy from the national government. Ilagan said the first-class municipality is thankful to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar for announcing that Puerto Galera is already qualified for the subsidy which he said will pave the way for the lasting solution to the issue of uncontrolled sewage discharges into the sea of the premier tourist town.
