188th Palo Day, fiesta activities kick off

By Nestor Abrematea PALO, Leyte- A festive atmosphere now pervades this historic town in Leyte as activities for the 188th Palo Day and fiesta activities kicked off Friday here. Mayor Remedios L. Petilla held a press conference attended by members of the Leyte media and Sangguniang Bayan members of her town led by Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Leyte and Regional Chapter President Wilson S. Uy and department heads. Petilla revealed the various socio,cultural and religious activities for the 188th Palo Day and fiesta celebration in honor of the Lord's Transfiguration. She said it is a simple yet historic and memorable fiesta as they will do away with expensive activities as they are still in austere moves. Petilla said the activities will focus on the culture and the arts, music, literature and livelihood programs for the benefit of the people of Palo. A nightly activity is being held at the Palo Municipal Hall grounds being participated by the various schools in Palo as well as of the Leyte Normal University, Eastern Visayas State University in Tacloban City. Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L.Petilla together with former Governor and Energy Secretary Carlos "Icot" L. Petilla graced the opening activities held last night at the Palo Pag-ibig Park grounds. Palo Archbishop John F. Du will lead priests in the Archdiocese of Palo and Palo Parish Priest Rev.Fr. Gilbert Urbina in the religious fiesta activities and the pontifical concelebrated mass on August 6, 2018 in the morning at the Palo Metropolitan Cathedral here.
