Robredo’s office, in partnership with Hapinoy, turned over P540,000 worth of seed capital on Wednesday to the beneficiaries who can now be micro-entrepreneurs.
They were given funds to start a sari-sari store after they completed their financial literacy workshops called "BasiKaalaman" at the Pateros Municipal Hall from March to June this year.
Each resident received P10,000 capital from the Angat Buhay and Hapinoy programs during a simple ceremony held at the Pateros Municipal Hall, where Robredo, Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III and Hapinoy President Mark Ruiz were all present.
Pateros is one of the six areas under Robredo’s flagship antipoverty program and its partners that will receive training on financial literacy. The others are the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Marikina, Muntinlupa, and Pasay.
The Vice President graced the event not only to witness the turnover, but also to speak with the beneficiaries.
In her speech, Robredo praised the 54 residents for their determination to finish their training.
“Ayaw po namin iyong tulong na pagkatapos ng ilang araw, ubos na, ano. Kaya iyon pong aming karampot na puwedeng itulong, gusto naming itulong sa negosyo para kahit kaunti siya, kayang palaguin,” she said.
“Kaya ibibigay namin ito na graduate na kayo kasi kampante na kami na mapupunta sa mabuti,” Robredo, an advocate of the poor, added.
The small business workshop taught the residents how to manage their capital and savings to make their livelihood sustainable.
They were trained on financial literacy, leadership, basic research market, business continuity planning, disaster preparedness, and family dynamics and development.
