Cavite declares state of calamity

Remulla declared on Sunday (July 22) a state of calamity in Cavite province as many areas were affected by “habagat” or southwest monsoon caused by tropical depression “Henry,” “Inday and lately “Josie.” (PHOTO BY ALI VICOY/ MANILA BULLETIN) (PHOTO BY ALI VICOY/ MANILA BULLETIN) Remulla said that the official state of calamity declaration would be made when the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Council) holds its session on Monday (July 23). The governor had expressed concern particularly on what he called seaside cities and municipalities and parts of Imus, the provinces capital, which, he said were “much affected” by the "habagat" over the weekend and earlier. “We are declaring (the state of calamity) when the council meets on Monday. All seaside towns and cities are affected and parts of Imus,” Remulla told this reporter. The governor had suspended classes at all levels in some days during the last two weeks due to “habagat” rains that caused floods particularly in some areas of the province’s lowland districts. The areas affected are Cavite City, Kawit, Rosario and Noveleta (1st district), Bacoor (2nd) and Imus (3rd). The other province's seaside or coastal municipalities affected by " are Tanza (6th), Naic, Ternate and Maragondon (7th) Bacoor declared earlier a state of calamity after 63 of its 73 barangays were affected by flooding due to Tropical Depression Inday. Naic also made a declaration after 12 barangays were flooded due to the downpour spawned by Tropical Storm Henry's "habagat.". Remulla earlier led the distribution of some 16,000 packs of rice to the fisher families in Ternate, Naic, Tanza, Noveleta and Cavite City.
