By Nestor Abrematea TACLOBAN CITY- A newly elected barangay chairman in Leyte and his five other companions were arrested by joint operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Baybay City Police Station in a raid at Barangay Guadalupe last July 18 at 10:45 in the evening. PDEA 8 Regional Director Edgar Jubay identified as SK Chairman Doni Francis Bisnar Pascua, 21 years,male, single, of Poblacion, Inopacan, Leyte and his six companions as Jomar Covero Jose Polo, 22 years old, single, fisherman of Brgy. Himoaw, Hilongos, Leyel John Paul Padiz Navales, 24 years old, single, businessman of Brgy.Sta.Cruz, Hilongos, Leyte; Jester Esplanada Lora, 22 years old, of Brgy. Campina, Hilongos, Leyte; Epheren Son Opina Flores, 30 years old, male, single, waiter, of Brgy. Santa Cruz, Baybay City; Edison Opina Flores, 31 years old, male, single, singer, of Brgy.Sta. Cruz, Baybay City and John Zarate who managed to elude arrest. Director Jubay said purchased and confiscated during the said operation were five pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystaline substance suspected to be shabu weighing more or less 3 grams with an estimated market value of P24, 000.00 and various drug paraphernalia. Jubay said the SK chairman and his companions are new drug personalities in Leyte. Criminal charges are now being prepared against the suspects before the Baybay City Prosecutor's Office, Bulwagan ng Katarungan, for violation of Section 5, Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) and Section 12 (possession of drug paraphernalia) of Article 11 of Republic Act 9165. The arrested SK chairman and his companions are still detained at the Baybay City Police Station.
