Jail officers nabbed for death of drug suspect

By Joseph Jubelag GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Police arrested on Tuesday two personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) who were implicated in the death of a suspected drug suspect in Polomolok, South Cotabato. Alex Orcajada, Polomolok police chief, identified the arrested suspects as Senior Jail Officers Anwarudin Sambuto and Wata Sambuto who were assigned at the BJMP regional office in Koronadal City. He said the suspects are facing murder charges in connection with the death of Saddam Macabangin, a suspected drug lord who was killed during an anti-drug operation on December 2018 in Barangay Koronadal Proper, Polomolok. The suspects were arrested at the BJMP regional office in Koronadal City by operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), led by Chief Insp. Rito Sebuala. Police are also hunting down two other suspects—Senior Insp. Jake Mutalib, and PO1 Adnan Mangelen who were also implicated in the case. Mutalib, who is police chief of Maitum, Sarangani, and Mngelen, who is assigned with Makilala police station in North Cotabato, had gone into hiding following the issuance of the arrest warrants against them. The case stemmed from the complaint filed by the relatives of Macabangin who accused the suspects of orchestrating the raid on the house of the slain suspect.
