SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – A newly launched PNP building Police Unified Special Concerns Office (PUSO) to cater people with senior citizens, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Lesbians Gays Bisexuals and Transgender (LGBT) in this city police station was opened to the public Thursday held at Barangay Tanqui here.

According to Superintendent John K. Guiagui, city police chief, the inauguration is part of the celebration of Police Community Relations (PCR) month.
Guiagui also gave a brief insight that way back in 2015 the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) meeting proposed the former city police chief, Superintendent Julius C. Suriben, and the board, to create a separate building which to cater the said communities due to discrimination from other people, and this will also provide confidential medical care from the client.
“Nakita nila yung kulang sa pagpapahalaga sa mga LGBT, SC, PWDs, communities tsaka yung mga bata, kung makikita ninyo sa isang tipikal na police station, naka integrate lahat diyan sa opisina na para sa kanila, ngayon pag dumarating sila pinagpipiestahan ng kung sino sino, at hindi cooperative ngayon sa relationship ng police o yung nag-iimbestiga, sa kanila kasi nga, nakikita sila at dinadaan, so yun yung isang napansin,” said.
Guiagui also added that the budget fund spend was total of P339,262.00 as generated from city police, provincial government, city government, private citizens, business sectors, and Law Enforcer Riders Association of the Philippines - La Union Chapter (LERAP) for assistance designed and construction headed by Architect Dominic Peralta.
There have been cases involving an LGBT, PWD, and SC, that some of them complain of being exploited by the media or they are exposed without their consent. This is the idea of putting up a special desk or office that caters to their concerns and to avoid further exploitation.
The activity was also graced by the Vice Gov. Aureo Augusto Q. Nisce, and City Mayor Hermenegildo Dong Gualberto, together with other city councils which they lead for the cutting of the ribbon, and unveiling the marker, together with other police officials, while Fr. Raul S. Panay led the blessing ceremony.
