Mobile app being developed to aid public on traffic

By Dhel Nazario A mobile application that can keep the public up-to-date on traffic report, flood alert, and disaster and emergency preparedness updates is now in the works through the partnership of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and a large media organization. MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim signed on Thursday a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Atty. Ray C. Espinosa, President and Chief Executive Officer of MediaQuest Holdings, Inc. (MANILA BULLETIN) (MANILA BULLETIN) Under the MOA, MMDA and MediaQuest Holdings will develop a mobile application that gives users the access to traffic situations across major thoroughfares that would help motorists in planning their trips and commuters in traveling the metropolis. Information regarding road conditions, road repairs, floods, Pasig River Ferry System and other public transport schedules, earthquake preparedness updates, other useful information can also be found in the app. The app's target launch is in December this year. Lim expressed gratefulness to MediaQuest officials for collaborating with the agency to keep the public informed. “I am sure this platform will help prevent the spread of disinformation and help increase public’s participation at a higher level,” said Lim. “Our interest is to involve the public in the government’s programs. With media’s effectiveness and credibility at hand, we hope to develop a culture of vigilance leading to an involved citizenry,” he added. For his part, Espinosa also thanked the agency for the opportunity to service the public.
