Legazpi City, Albay — A number of local governments in this province has suspended classes in all levels in both public and private schools today due to the schedule mass transport strike by the Concerned Drivers and Operators-Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Condor-PISTON).
The Condor-PISTON strike is supposed to start at 12 a.m. Monday and end at 12:01 a.m. of June 26 in protest of the impact of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law on the poor sector and the phase-out of 15-yearold and above jeepneys.
Among the local governments issued an advisory for the suspension of classes in all levels were Legazpi City, Ligao City, Sto. Domingo, Guinobatan, Daraga, Jovellar, and Polangui.
Earlier, the University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi and Sunshine International School already announced their classes suspended.
Ramon Rescovilla, deputy secretary general of Condor-Piston – a regional transport alliance of PISTON, said that they were expecting at least 90 percent participation in the strike among jeepney drivers and operators in Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, and Masbate.
He said that they will be holding separate activities in the provinces of Sorsogon and Catanduanes on Monday.
Meanwhile the local government of Naga City has issued advisory at noon yesterday that it there will be “no suspension of class and work” today in the city.
