Cops round up 1,329 from Cavite streets; 'Tambay' in Bulacan, mostly minors

Regala Camp Garcia, Cavite/Camp Olivas, Pampanga — The number of “tambay” or loiterers, troublemakers, and minors breaking curfew ordinances in Cavite has breached the 1,000 mark; while in Bulacan, majority of the 101 individuals rounded up were found to be teenagers, police said yesterday. In Cavite, the Police Provincial Office (PPO) rounded up a total of 1,329 residents from the night of June 18 until last Friday night. Senior Superintendent William M. Segun, Cavite PPO provincial director, said those taken to various police stations throughout the province were violators of ordinances like drinking in public places; smoking ban; curfew for minors; going shirtless in public; illegal gambling; street gangs; noises or disturbances; and other community offenses. In Bulacan, more 101 people were rounded up on Friday night alone for drinking liquor in a public place, violating curfew hours, and creating trouble in public areas, said Chief Supt. Amador V. Corpus, Central Luzon police regional director (RD). Corpus noted that 52 of those taken to the police station were minors violating curfew hours, eight of them engaging in stoning and rioting. The police operations, dubbed “Rid the Streets of Drinkers and Youths” or Oplan RODY, are in response to the call of President Duterte to mitigate crime and eliminate street selling of illegal drugs by keeping public places free of potential troublemakers and no-gooders at nighttime.
