CAMP GEN. PANTALEON GARCIA, IMUS, Cavite – Four hundred forty-six vagrants and bystanders or ‘tambays’ in the streets have been arrested by the police in Cavite’s upland and lowland districts in the last three days.
Senior Superintendent William M. Segun, Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) Director, said that he sees the crackdown number to breach the 1,000 mark by weekend with the day-to-day operations being conducted by his officers and men in their areas of jurisdiction.
Cavite, with seven districts comprising seven cities and 16 municipalities, is Luzon’s most populous province with over 4.4 million residents.
“Yes, gabi-gabi na po naming gagawin ‘yan (Yes, we will conduct the operations nightly),” Segun told this reporter.
The Cavite police started its anti"tambay" operations last Monday, with 79 ordinance violators nabbed in three districts.
There were orders from Director General Oscar D. Albayalde, chief of Philippine National Police (PNP) for all police officers to act against the ‘tambays’ who violate the laws in the community.
President Duterte last week lashed out at ‘tambays’ who usually violate the ordinances on curfew hours and drinking, smoking, gambling and other public disturbances.
Segun said that those arrested are from Bacoor, Dasmarinas, Imus, General Trias, Trece Martires, Tagaytay City and the municipalities of Alfonso, General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), Noveleta, Silang, Rosario, Kawit, and Ternate.
