Ex-drug user shot by friend now in critical condition

A former drug user is now in critical condition after he was shot by his friend on his way home in Malabon City Wednesday night, police said.

Mark Anthony Clemente, 34, of Barangay Longos, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Meanhwile, the suspect was identified as Eduardo Elizalde, 36.

Clemente was traversing Azucena Street on board a motorcycle on his way home when Elizalde and another unidentified cohort fired shots at him at around 9:10 p.m.

Clemente was brought by his live-in partner to Manila Central University Hospital where he is currently recuperating.

Recovered from the scene were 12 empty shells of caliber. 45 and a sachet of suspected shabu.

However, Clemente's relatives told police that he already stopped using illegal drugs.

Police are now looking into drug-related angle as the possible motive behind the incident, said PO1 Randy Billedo

Smoking in public led to arrest of 4 drug users

Smoking in public place led to the arrest of four people who admitted being drug users in Caloocan City Thursday night.

Arrested were three jobless individuals Loreta Larangan, 25; Mark Philip Chong, 27; and Tristan Paul Lapuz, 37; and a glass installer John Carlo Bonina, 22.

Elements from Police Community Precinct 7 were conducting anti-gambling operations when they saw Larangan smoking on Magdalena Street around 10 p.m.

However, Larangan allegedly ran away when the policemen approached her.

The cops chased Larangan inside a house where the three men were caught allegedly having pot session.

Recovered from the scene were four heat-sealed plastic sachets of alleged shabu, cigarettes, and drug paraphernalia.

The four suspects, however, denied the police's claims, saying they were just sitting in front of the house when the cops arrested them.

Meanwhile, they admitted being drug users and denied selling illegal drugs.

Appropriate charges will be filed against the four suspects for violations of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Kate Javier)

Man accused of theft shoots tricycle driver to death

A tricycle driver was shot dead after allegedly accusing his assailant of theft Friday in Tondo, Manila, police said.

The victim, identified as King Arthur Roque, 24, of No. 1381, Aguila St., Tondo, Manila, died on the spot after sustaining a lone gunshot wound on the back of his head, case investigator SPO3 Charles Duran said.

Meanwhile, the suspect, identified as Charlon Bangog, 21, of 1387 Franco St., Tondo, Manila, was left injured after being shot by a responding officer.

Prior to the incident, PO2 Christian Jay Bullecer of the Moriones-Tondo Police Station was buying drinks inside a convenience store on N. Zamora St. at around 3:35 a.m. of Friday when he heard a gunshot outside the store.

Bullecer then discovered Roque's lifeless body lying on the street and the suspect pointing a gun at the victim.

Upon witnessing the incident, Bullecer immediately tried to make the suspect surrender. However, Bangog reportedly ran away and began to fire shots at Bullecer, prompting the officer to retaliate.

Bangog sustained a gunshot wound and was brought to the Gat Andres Hospital where he is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the suspect's live-in-partner, Nica Lacuesta, said that prior to the incident, the victim reportedly accused Bangog as the suspect in a recent theft incident, which caused tension between the two.

Authorities recovered one caliber .38, two fired cartridge cases and nine .9mm cartridge cases from the suspect, who will be face a murder charge. (Hans Amancio)

3 men including teen nabbed for marijuana possession

Three men including a teenager were nabbed for possession of suspected marijuana during an anti-narcotics operation Friday in Pandacan, Manila.

P/Supt. Pidencio Saballo Jr. identified the suspects as John Neil Sallao, 21, of Ilang-ilang St. Pandacan, Manila; Joshua Cabarle, 21, of Kahilum 3, Pandacan, Manila; and Jholan Pangilinan, 19, of Loreto St., Sampaloc, Manila.

Elements of the Station Drug Enforcement Team of Pandacan Police Station conducted an anti-narcotics operation at around 11:30 p.m. yesterday along Beata St., which resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

Authorities recovered one glass pipe containing partly burned leaves and one sachet of suspected marijuana from the suspects, who will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Hans Amancio)

Detainee dies after experiencing difficulty in breathing

A male detainee of  theNovaliches Police Station in Quezon City died while being treated in a hospital after experiencing difficulty in breathing early Friday.

Superintendent Carlito Grijaldo, chief of Quezon City Police District-Novaliches Police Station (PS-4), identified the victim as Niño Cruz, 39, a resident of Barangay Gulod, Novaliches.

Cruz was jailed at the PS-4 detention cell after being arrested for physical injury and unjust vexation.

According to his fellow detainee, at around 9 p.m. Thursday, inside the cell, he noticed Cruz gasping for breath while his mouth was foaming with saliva, prompting him to seek help from the duty jailer.

The officer immediately instructed other policemen to rush Cruz to the Novaliches District Hospital for treatment.

However, Cruz succumbed at 1:47 a.m. Friday while being treated.

No external injuries were noticed on the victim's body except for some skin diseases.

Further investigation is underway as authorities have yet to determine the cause of the victim's death. (Alexandria San Juan)
