By Inigo S. Roces 1 After months of teasing in various forms of media, be it the vehicle’s silhouette or a camouflaged vehicle, Nissan finally introduces its the new frame-based Nissan Terra. The Terra is set to compete in the fiercely competitive seven-seater, Pickup-based Platform Vehicle (PPV) segment, competing directly against the highly popular Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Ford Everest, Isuzu mu-X, and Chevrolet Trailblazer. Because of its frame-based construction, the Terra traces its roots to the Patrol, and the connection is evident in the vehicle’s design, appearance and rugged ability. As has come to be expected in this class, the vehicle has been designed with a robust exterior, spacious interior and advanced driving technology. The Terra makes a statement with Nissan’s signature V-motion grille. It integrates “boomerang” shaped LED daytime running lamps in front, and similarly shaped LED tail lamps behind. Along its side profile is a coke-bottle shaped shoulder, mirroring the sporty design of Nissan’s sedans. Completing the exterior are 18-inch alloy wheels. 2 Inside, the Terra features a roomy interior, capable of seating up to seven people. The vehicle offers one of the highest loading capacities and more rear space. Its top-of-the-line model comes with premium leather seats, an advanced air conditioning system, ambient lights, and overhead entertainment. The Terra also comes with several innovations never seen in this segment. First off is the one-touch remote fold and tumble seats. The driver can easily fold the seats from his position with just the push of a button, making it easy for passengers to enter the third row. The Terra also features a Smart Rear View Mirror, part of the Intelligent Mobility suite, that can be switched to show the view from the camera mounted in the rear windshield if the vehicle is fully loaded. On this mirror, the driver may also opt to display the other views like the Intelligent Around View Monitor (a 360 degree view of the immediate area around the vehicle) with Moving Object Detection, as well a view of the front, and front right side. The last elements of the Intelligent Mobility package are Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Warning. Keeping the vehicle aloft is a reinforced chassis, supported by fully independent front suspension a five-link coil spring rear suspension system, and rigid rear-wheel axle, working together to ensure a stable yet comfortable ride. Propelling it forward is a 2.5-liter YD25DDTi turbo-diesel engine that is also found in the Navara. All variants of the Terra will have 190-PS and 450-Nm of torque. They can be had with a choice of six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic in 4x2 and 4x4. Those that opt for the 4x4 model will find a capable off-roader with a high ground clearance, a water wading depth of 450 mm and a 4WD-DIFF lock system, coupled with Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist. “Over 60 years of SUV heritage went into the development of the Nissan Terra,” said Ramesh Narasimhan, President and Managing Director of Nissan Philippines. “The new Nissan Terra is designed to give you the confidence to take your family on exceptional urban and outdoor adventures by providing a no-compromise package.” Beginning June 1, customers may already reserve their vehicles at any Nissan dealership nationwide. The new Nissan Terra will be available in the market by August 20. The Terra will be offered in 4x2 6MT at P1,499,000; 4x2 7AT starting at P1,615,000; and 4x4 7AT starting at P2,096,000.
