Hunk actor Derek Ramsay has set a deadline on when he'll tie the knot: Half a decade from now.

“Five years? I don’t think nga aabot ng five years eh. I think before five years nandoon na ‘yon,” he said.
Derek plays Bea Alonzo’s boyfriend who left for abroad in Star Cinema’s latest offering, “Kasal.”
“Magkababata kami ni Bea (sa movie). We’re very much in love. I left the country to provide for the relationship. In doing so I made some wrong decisions which ended up hurting the relationship. But the feelings and the emotions are still there,” he shared.
“For me, kasal is a complete commitment to your partner,” he said, correcting the notion that he doesn’t believe in marriage.
“There was a lot of hearsay that I don’t believe in marriage. That’s not true. My parents have been happily married for forty-plus years. I have a perfect example to follow by. Why is it taking so long? It is because I wanna be sure. There’s no option for jumping into that and trying to bail ship,” he explained.
Does he prefer long engagement?
“In my opinion, you should take your time. What’s the rush if you would spent your life together naman?” he initially said.
“Kasal, the ceremony and all of that, sometimes people fall in love with that specific day. But kasal or marriage is not about that specific day. It’s the rest of your life and a lot of people make the mistake, you know. Women, they dream about it and little girls walk down the aisle. They fall in love with that whole concept of a wedding and they jump into that. That could be very dangerous.”
He felt that since “kasal is for the rest of your life, he believes that “it’s giving you the opportunity to be with your partner for quite a while. Get to know them inside and out. I think that would be a good stepping stone in building a very strong marriage.”
As a firm believer in the sanctity of marriage, Derek feels there’s no room for divorce.
“Is the country ready? I think we’re the country left out that’s not on the bandwagon of having divorced legalized. I don’t believe in it but I think it will happen. You know, the world has become such a small space. It’s so easy to know anything and everything about anything. And if the entire world had jumped into that bandwagon, I think, we will, too. Sad to say, it will end up that way,” he said.
'Number one'
Working with Bea anew – after starring with her in two movies, “And I Love You So” and “No Other Woman” - is a welcome experience for the hunk actor.
“Of course, I’ve always said this. I’ve always been a big fan of Bea Alonzo. I’ve worked with so many talented leading ladies but I’m not scared to say that for me Bea is the number one leading lady out there. A big part of why I chose to accept this film is because I’d get to work with Bea again. A big part of my success is the film 'No Other Woman.' I know may utang ako kay Bea kasi medyo tinakbuhan ko sya last time from a project that we’re doing before.
“I am not afraid to say that I’m a big fan of Bea, how she handles herself on and off-cam. I am a very big fan. She’s a smart girl. You see it when she performs, when she talks to you behind the camera. How she conducts herself, everything about her is (what makes me) a fan,” he said.
