Two months from now, the Philippines will be Celine Dion country at least for a couple of day when the international singer arrives here to hold her much-awaited concert. Jake Zyrus (mb.com.ph) Jake Zyrus Singer Jake Zyrus, formerly known as Charice Pempengco, isn’t just excited over it but he has memories of the superstar that keeps him smiling 10 years after they did a duet at the prestigious Madison Square Garden in New York City. Celine is known for the hits “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic,” “Beauty & The Beast,” “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now,” “All By Myself” and “Because You Love Me.” “Minsan ini-imagine ko kung ano ’yung naramdaman ko noon,” Jake mulled. “That little girl with a long hair on the same stage with Ms. Celine Dion. Gusto kong mai-share ’yung feeling na ’yun sa isang bata ngayon na maka-duet ’yung iniidolo nila.” Celine and Jake performed “Because You Love Me” in front of 18,000 people. During the concert, Celine mentioned it was Oprah who told her about Charice and so she invited the Filipino pride to sing with her. Jake went on to share her recollections of the international singer behind the scenes. “Kasi iba ’yung feeling, hindi lang dahil sa magaling siyang singer kun’di gusto kong ma-experience nila ’yung kabaitan niya bilang isang tao.” “Pinakita niya sakin kung gaano siya kabait na tao ’di lang sa pamilya niya kundi sa buong staff niya na talagang loyal sa kanya,’ he added. Rumors have it they will do a surprise duet in July. True? “Kung pinili niya ko (para mag-perform this July), Thank you. Pero ang pinaka-biggest wish ko eh mabigyan ng chance ’yung isang bata na ’yan – little boy o little girl na ma-experience ’yung thrill na na-experience ko (years ago with her).” As per writing this article, there’s been no official announcement regarding Jake’s appearance on Celine’s concert. Dark down Stardom can be a burden to the soul. Recently, Sarah Geronimo had an emotional break down at a concert during which she alluded all about it. Jake can relate. “We have issues sa sarili natin na hindi natin magawan ng paraan. Insecurities, ’yung fear na kung anong sasabihin ng ibang tao. Ang daming taong nakatingin sayo, daming huhusga sa’yo. ’Pag pinakita mo ’yung weakness mo, talo ka,” he said in general about the subject. As a public figure, celebrities are expected to always be at their best. Unfortunately, some fans forget their idols are human, too. He mentioned there was a time he got so depressed that he attempted to take his own life. “Hindi ko siya hinandle ng maganda sa totoo lang, that’s the truth. It’s okay. Kasi hindi naman po ako superhero ’pag na-feel ko ’yung depression ’pag dumating sakin eh sabihin ko sa sarili ko na ‘I’m strong, kaya ko ’to’,” he explained. He described those moments as, “’yung tipong nakatulala ka lang at lahat ng weakness mo papasok sayo at hindi mo siya mapipigilan.” Celine Dion (right) and Sarah Geronimo (mb.com.ph) Celine Dion (right) and Sarah Geronimo “Mahirap po talaga. Ang kailangan is understanding, that when someone goes through this thing you have to understand na tao rin, napapagod, nade-depress at hindi agad agad nagiging okay,” Jake said. Jake on changes Recently, some netizens were shocked when Jake posted a sort of topless photo of himself at the beach. His followers expressed different opinions about it. “I’m gonna post this because this is who I really am. Natutuwa ako sa nakikita ko, hindi man kasing perfect ng ibang nakikita natin pero masaya ako,” the singer explained. Jake added, “First time ko ’yun sa isang beach, first time ko din lumangoy kasi takot ako sa beach. Pero nu’ng time na ’yun sabi ko ‘I will give it a try’ at talagang pumunta ako doon. It was one of the happiest days in my life and I had to share. ‘Masaya ako, kaya ishe-share ko.’” The singer said he doesn’t mind those negative comments and he’s just focusing on the inspiring things that people tell him. “As long as may mga taong nagsasabi ng ganoon sa’kin, I will keep doing it and it brings up my confidence as well.” Jake celebrates his 26th birthday this year by holding the concert “Music & Me” at Skydome in Quezon City on May 25. Directed by Calvin Neria with Adonis Tabanda as musical director, the show presented by Echo Jam Entertainment has Kyla, Iñigo Pascual and Jessica Sanchez as guest performers.
