North Luzon expressway, Maharlika highway linked

  By Freddie Velez BUSTOS, Bulacan -- Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) inaugurated last Monday the 24.61 -kilometer arterial road that will link the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) with the Philippines-Japan Friendship Highway, which is also known as the “Maharlika Highway,” that traverses the central part of Luzon. (DPWH / MANILA BULLETIN) Engineer Virgilio Castillo, project director of the Road Management Cluster 1 of DPWH, said that in a couple of weeks, Phase 3 and Phase 4 sections of the Plaridel bypass road will be open to motorists. Last year, the Phase 3 of the project, which includes the 1.121-kilometer bridge that connects Phase 1 and Phase 2 segments of the bypass road that links the road from Barangay Malamig here up to the Barangay Maasim in San Rafael town was completed, Engineer Castello had said that Phase 4 would be completed in July this year, but because the construction of the project was being done 24/7, it was completed two months before the target date. Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando both commended the fast work being undertaken by the project engineers. They said the bypass road will usher in more growth and development not only in the Bulacan province but also in Northern and Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila because it will boost tourism as well as the fast delivery of agricultural products to urban centers. During the inauguration, Secretary Villar led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Plaridel-bypass road expansion project. The two lanes Plaridel-bypass road will be expanded to four lanes. The more than P1-Billion expansion project is expected to be completed in two to three years.
