Vina on taking on daring roles

At 42, seasoned actress-singer Vina Morales is still slaying the scene by doing roles out of her comfort zone.

Two years after she was seen as Catherine Pelayo-Reyes/Kazuko on comedy-drama series “Born For You,” she returns this month on the Precious Hearts Romances series “Araw Gabi.” She plays Celestina de Alegre who is one of the main antagonists to lead characters played by JM de Guzman and Barbie Imperial.
At a press conference, Vina revealed that during the first three days of taping alone, she donned swimsuits thrice for several bed scenes with her "boy toy" on the show, Victor Silayan.
“Sabi ko ‘Diyos ko Lord ano ’to feeling bagets?’ Pero infairness lumalaban (ako.),” she shared.
It was her first time to work with the young actor and she felt awkward during their intimate scenes as they did not get the chance to take sensuality workshop.
“Medyo nahirapan ako because I’m not used to these kind of scenes,” she admitted. “Kasi alam mo nu’ng early days ang ginagawa kong movies or show ay medyo conservative ng konti.”
“So dito si Direk kung ano-anong mga pinapagawa sa amin. Nakaka-stress pero kahit first time ko to work with Victor, he's very gentleman so I thanked him for that,” she added.
Victor said he was respectful during their scenes.
“Miss Vina makes the work easy. Also, she's a very beautiful actress, a very generous actress,” he said.
One of the directors, Theodore Boborol, felt challenged shooting the intimate scene as he still sees Vina’s character in “Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum.”
“Tuwing nagla-love scene sobrang nakakatawa kasi imbes na nenerbyusin kami eh tawa kami ng tawa kasi kine-choreograph namin na ‘Oh on top naman siya,’” he shared. “Pero basta they should watch out for their love scene kasi sobrang ang galing nilang dalawa. ’Pag napanuod nila hindi mahahalatang tawanan lang kami ng tawanan habang ginagawa ang eksena.”
How did Vina prepare for the role? Well, she was required to have Amazon-like physique.
“’Yung role ko kasi I’m one of the owners of El Paraiso, ako ’yung matinding kaaway at numero unong kalaban ni Adrian (JM). But, ako I had my dark childhood na even on my younger days, mga 16 years old, I became a prostitute. So may mga background story talaga parang maging ganu’n ’yung character niya – maging strong pero also a loving mom," she noted.
In fact, she admitted the directors, staff and the casts were among the reason why she was able to gather her confidence to play her role well.
Another challenging part is that her character is always switching moods.
“Feeling nga namin lahat, parang bipolar lang ang peg namin. Kasi one scene mabait then sa ibang scene gustong pumapatay ng tao," she shared.
Vina finds “Araw Gabi” as compelling story full of love, mystery, and suspense.
The series premieres April 30 on Kapamilya Gold.
