'Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag' included among world's greatest films

The Criterion Collection selected National Artist for Cinema Lino Brocka's 'Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag  (Manila in the Claws of Light),' as one of the greatest films from around the world. Maynila sa mga kuko ng liwanag (Windows on Worlds/MANILA BULLETIN) Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag (Windows on Worlds/MANILA BULLETIN) 'Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag' is a 1975 Filipino drama film based on the novel 'In the Claws of Brightness' by Edgardo M. Reyes. It tells the story of a young fisherman, Júlio Madiaga, played by Bembol Roco, who goes to Manila to search for his loved one, Ligaya, played by Hilda Koronel. The classic film is considered by many as one of the greatest films of Filipino cinema. Founded in 1984, The Criterion Collection, Inc. is an American home-video distribution company which is known for “gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions of the highest technical quality, with supplemental features that enhance the appreciation of the art of film.” On June 12, Philippine Independence day, 'Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag' will be launched on Blu-ray.
