MWF 1: Kasaysay makes history

(Photo By Rafael Bandayrel/MB Sports Online) By Rafael Bandayrel Manila Wrestling Federation electrified Filipino wrestling fans with their first major offering, Sunday, Apr. 8, at Elements at Centris, EDSA Quezon Avenue in Quezon City. MWF 1: Kasaysayan showcased an action-packed show filled with thrills and surprises as they took one step closer to their goal of becoming “an established brand of mainstream entertainment in the Philippines.” Commissioner Mike Shannon opened the event by presenting Robin Sane with the "History Maker Award" for winning the “Level UP Battle Royal” at the promotion's first show last February. Mr. Lucha interrupted Sane, his main event opponent in a tag-team match, to send a message to the History Maker medal recipient.

Mega Main Event

As promised, the show delivered a massive main event as the high-flying Sane teamed-up with WWE NXT alumnus Ho Ho Lun against the duo of Mr. Lucha and Southeast Asian tag team champion The Eurasian Dragon. The team of Sane and Lun got the upper hand early on as they utilized speed to their advantage. The smaller tag-team also showcased their high-flying maneuvers as the Lun hit both opponents with a splash then Sane followed up with a tope con hilo on Lucha who was outside of the ring.
Chemistry was all that mattered in the end as Lucha and Dragon got the win. Dragon pinned Lun after completing a blockbuster neck breaker followed by a Russian leg-sweep. Lun was disgruntled following the defeat and took out his frustration on his partner. The Cruiserweight Classic participant laid-out Sane and tampered with his “History Maker” medal to add insult to injury.

Barn Burner

Tarek El Tayech came out and announced that Coach Gus Queens requested for an interview. Coach Gus ran his mouth, claiming he is the only reason why MWF was able to succeed. “Danger” Rex Lawin then emerged from the crowd and blindsided El Tayech, laying him out with a sleeper hold. Lawin’s opponent Frankie Thurteen appeared to break up the mugging. Thurteen and Lawin engaged in a hard-hitting battle, as the two exchanged stiff forearms and thunderous chops. “Filipino Strong Style” was dished out by Lawin as some powerful elbows and forearms to the downed Thurteen were enough to put the “Grunge Grappler” away. Lawin was not satisfied with the victory as he proceeded to maul Thurteen after the bell. The MWF locker room had to come out to stop Lawin from inflicting more damage. Ryujin overcame Vaughn after connecting with a headscissors off the top rope sent, which was followed by a devastating Asai DDT.

Blockbuster

A short film titled “Anytime, Anywhere” starring resident action hero Gigz Stryker and RG as a UP student was then shown to the crowd. MWF teased the appearance of a “female Japanese icon” on Facebook prior to the event, and it turned out to be adult film star Maria Ozawa, who was robbed by two goons in the movie. The action film concluded in the ring as the pair of snatchers ran into the venue with Ozawa’s purse. Stryker and RG soon followed, hit both thugs with their finishers, and retrieved the purse. The crowd erupted when Ozawa entered the ring to personally thank her defenders.
