Apple issues iPhone 8, 8 Plus in red

By MB Online Apple will release red-colored versions of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus as part of its (PRODUCT)RED series, the company announced Monday. The red iPhone 8 and the red iPhone 8 Plus (64GB) retail at $699 and $799, respectively. (Apple / MANILA BULLETIN) The handsets will be available to order online in select countries and regions tomorrow and in stores beginning April 13, Apple disclosed. “Both phones sport a beautiful glass enclosure, now in red, with a matching aluminum band and a sleek black front,” Apple said in a statement. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing, said the phone’s beauty is not only in the surface for it “offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS.” “iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus improve on everything we love about iPhone, including Retina HD displays that are more beautiful than ever, the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone with the A11 Bionic and more advanced cameras for unbelievable photos and videos. We are proud to support (RED) with this bold new iPhone and hope customers think it is as special as we do,” Joswiak added. Alongside the special edition models, the company also released the  (PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio, which was “crafted from specially tanned and finished European leather. In 2006, Apple partnered with (RED), which works with “the world’s most iconic brands and organizations” to create products and services which will in turn generate funds to The Global Fund, thus the  (PRODUCT)RED items. The Global Fund is an organization dedicated to the eradication of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics. According to Apple it provides testing, counseling, treatment and prevention programs with a specific focus on eliminating transmission of the virus from mothers to their babies. After 11 years of working together, Apple has become one (RED)’s largest corporate donor, donating more than $160 million to the Global Fund. “Today’s announcement is further evidence of Apple’s leadership in and commitment to the AIDS fight since the beginning of (RED) in 2006,” said. Deborah Dugan, (RED)’s CEO, stated that the $160 million donation from Apple “equates to more than 800 million days of lifesaving ARV medication that prevents the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies.” “We’re honored that Apple has dedicated its resources to our purpose, and can’t wait to see customers bring our mission to life through the purchase of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus PRODUCT RED Special Edition,” Dugan added.
