'Gangnam Style' voted best hit in K-entertainment history

Psy’s iconic song “Gangnam Style” has been voted the biggest hit while veteran singer Seo Taiji was chosen most influential in Korean entertainment history. In the category of the best hits in Korean entertainment history, “Gangnam Style” got 26 votes with experts saying it’s the biggest worldwide hit among Korean content. Psy released the music video for “Gangnam Style” on July 15, 2012 which became viral and catapulted the rapper to worldwide fame. To date, it has amassed 3.12 billion views on YouTube. The popular TV variety show “Infinite Challenge” came in second with 14 votes. The TV show, which stars Yoo Jae-suk, Haha, Park Myeong-su, Yang Hye-sung, Jeong Jun-ha and Jo Se-ho, was launched in 2005 and has been on the air for 13 years now. In third place are the hit dramas “Winter Sonata” and “Sandglass,” and K-pop boy band BTS with six votes each. “Winter Sonata,” released in 2002, starred Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo and is considered one of the shows that popularized hallyu, or Korean Wave, in Asia. The drama became a hit in the Philippines, Japan and other countries. The 1995 “Sandglass” is one the most popular popular TV dramas of all time, reaching its highest rating of 64.5 percent. K-pop boy band BTS have been enjoying worldwide fame. Last year, they won the Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards and recently bagged the Best Boy Band award at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards. The hit film “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” placed fourth while the popular 2003 drama “Jewel In The Palace” starring Lee Young-ae came fifth. In the most influential stars in Korean entertainment history, Seo Taiji took first place with 19 votes followed by Psy with 10 votes, and Seo Taiji and Boys, Song Kang Ho and Bae Yong Joon with nine votes each, Cho Yong Pil with 7 votes, BTS with 6 votes and entertainer Yoo Jae Suk with 3 votes.
