The seven-member idol group representing Asia bagged the Favorite Global Music Star and edged out Taylor Swift, Black Coffee, Lorde, Maluma, The Vamps and Zara Larsson. However, the boys were not at the ceremony to receive their award.
BTS’ song “Mic Drop” (Steve Aoki remix) was played during the opening with WWE superstar and host John Cena.
During the show, Cena, a fan of BTS, said, “RM wants to know, who’s your favorite member of BTS?” referring to the boy band’s leader.
“J-Hope is so humble and cheerful. RM is extremely adorable but they are all so talented and if you guys are watching, I love you guys!” Cena said.
After the show, Cena tweeted, “1 final thanks @Nickelodeon AND @BTS_twt @bts_bighit gotta rep my boy JHope!Namjoon, all in good fun, all (love) for RM! Congrats on ‘18 #KCA Global Music Star! Thanks for letting me #DropTheMic.”
The award is another international achievement for BTS. Earlier this month, BTS won the Best Boy Band while their fans, the ARMYs, won Best Fan Army at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards held in California. Last year, the boys bagged the Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMA).
Meanwhile, South Korea’s First Lady Kim Jung Sook met students who are learning the Korean language in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and gave them signed BTS CDs as gifts.
The First Lady was accompanying President Moon Jae-in on his three-day state visit to the UAE starting on March 24.
She met students of the King Sejong Institute, which teaches the Korean language, and they visited a traditional market in Abu Dhabi.
The students told her that they are interested in Korean culture, food and K-pop. They promised to meet again in Korea.
