Alvarez, secretary general of the rulling party, announced PDP’s senatorial candidates during the mass oath-taking of around 4,000 new PDP-Laban members in Caloocan City.
Among the senatorial bets of President Duterte's party, according to Alvarez, are Senate President Koko Pimentel, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque, special assistant to the president Bong Go, former Metro Manila Development chairman Francis Tolentino, Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, Maguindanao Rep. Zajid (Dong) Mangudadatu, Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman and Davao Rep. Karlo Nograles.
"Naniniwala ako na magtutuloy-tuloy ang pagbabago kung ang majority nang nakaupo sa Senado ay sumusuporta sa pangulo (I believe that change will continue if majority of the senators support the president)," Alvarez said.
Alvarez also campaigned for the administration's proposed shift to federalism before the new PDP-Laban members, who are mostly barangay officials. He said he believed that supporters for the shift to federal form of government are now getting huge.
"May mga naka-schedule tayo na mass oath-taking next week. Ito ay nakaka-encourage rin dahil ito ay nagpapakita ng suporta sa ating Pangulo, lalo na sa kanyang mga advocacies (We have mass oathtaking scheduled for next week. This encourages us because it shows support for our President, especially his advocacies)," Alvarez said.
Alvarez also pointed out benefits under a Federal format, saying local government would get bigger share in revenue.
"Federalism is all about money, power, and opportunity," Alvarez emphasized.
However, Alvarez warned local government officials who took oath that they should not have records in illegal drugs.
Also present during the event were Umali, Roque and Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan.
Meanwhile, Caloocan Rep. Along Malapitan assumed post as the city's head of PDP-Laban.
The oath-taking of the new party members comes before the anticipated barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this May.
