Yoona wins at 12th Asian Film Awards

K-pop group Girls’ Generation member Yoona was recognized at the 12th Asian Film Awards held recently at The Venetian Macao in Macau. Yoona (Instagram) /mb.com.ph Yoona (Instagram) Yoona won the Next Generation Award for her role in the hit Korean film “Confidential Assignment,” which starred Hyun Bin, Kim Joo Hyuk and Yoo Hae-jin. She was also nominated for best newcomer. The action movie grossed $59.61 million and sold 7.81 million tickets to end up as the third best-selling film in Korea in 2017, based on data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). Korean actor and director Yang Ik-june bagged the best supporting actor trophy for his role in the Japanese film “Wilderness.” Kim Ji-yong won best cinematography for the Korean film “The Fortress” while Shin Min-kyung took home the best editing award for the Korean movie “The King.” “Youth” from China was adjudged as best film while Japan’s Yuya Ishii won best director for “The Tokyo Night Sky Is Always the Densest Shade of Blue” and Dong Yue of China won best new director for “The Looming Storm.” Sylvia Chang of “Love Education” won best actress and Louis Koo of “Paradox” grabbed the best actor plum. Kitty Zhang grabbed the best supporting actress award for “Legend of the Demon Cat” and Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying of “Bad Genius” won best newcomer. Other winners are: “Newton by Mayanayk Tewari and Amit Masurkar, best screenplay; “Our Time Will Come” by Joe Hisaishi, best original music; “Paradox,” best action film; Chen Tongxun for “Legend of the Demon Cat,” best costume design; Tu Nan and Lu Wei for “Legend of the Demon Cat,” best production design; “Legend of the Demon Cat” by Norio Ishii, best visual effects; “The Great Buddha” by Tu Du-chih and Wu Shu-yao, best sound. “Wolf Warrior 2” was given the 2017 highest grossing Asian film award while Kara Hui won the excellence in Asian cinema award and Sylvia Chang was presented the lifetime achievement award.
