KFC Welcomes GCash Scan-to-Pay

Published Feb 28, 2018 12:05 am
Top fast food chain KFC has taken the “finger-lickin’ good” dining experience to the next level as it recently introduced a new payment scheme to its customers. KFC is the first “Quick Service Restaurant” (QSR) to join the list of merchants that have adapted the GCash Scan-to-Pay system, initially rolling it out to three branches in the metro. These branches are Glorietta, TriNoma, and Fort Bonifacio. GCash is operated by Mynt, which is owned by the telecommunications giant along with Ayala Corporation and Ant Financial. It reached Philippine shores in 1966 and has created a legacy as one of the favorite chicken restaurants of Filipinos. KFC Philippines plans to roll out the GCash Scan-to-Pay systems to more stores within this year. As an added come-on, KFC Philippines offers a P50 cashback to customers who use the GCash Scan-to-Pay payment scheme at nominated KFC branches in the month of February. Transactions must be at least P150 to be eligible for the promo. To use the Scan-to-Pay feature, Globe users must download the GCash app on their smartphones and update it to the latest version. The user must then register an account and fund the GCash wallet at any GCash partner outlets. With over 12,000 GCash partner outlets nationwide, including Globe Stores, SM Business Centers, Puregold branches, Robinsons Business Centers, 7-Eleven Cliqq kiosks, and TouchPay kiosks, among others, a customer can easily fund in their GCash wallets. In order to pay, a GCash user will only have to open the App, scan KFC’s QR Code by the counter and tap the confirmation tab to complete transaction. Cu stresses there is a positive turnout in GCash’s Scan-to-Pay system. “Currently with the adoption of over 4,000 QRs accepted in various merchants nationwide, we at Globe are confident with our partnership with KFC as it will bring easier and faster transactions through GCash,” Cu said. Cu said over 70 percent of the telco’sover 60 million customers and users already own a smartphone and that, “adopting a cashless ecosystem provides convenience and security in doing transactions.” In addition, Anthony Thomas, chief executive officer of Mynt, asserts that the adoption of a cashless system is quite challenging in the Philippine field as cash is still king, “but we welcome these challenges in the hopes of giving every Filipino the capability to transact business with transparency and worry-free transactions.”
