Although she has had no boyfriend since birth, Klarisse de Guzman manages to sing convincingly about love and pain on her coming eponymous album.

At a recent recording session, she admitted having a tough time drawing from emotions she’s yet to feel or recall memories that have not been made yet.
Still, she strived to gave her best as “'yung (mga kanta sa) album kailangan isapuso ko."
The seven-track work, all ballads in Filipino, has three revival songs and four originals. These include the promotional song 0“Wala Na Talaga,” theme song of the Asianovela “My Dearest Intruder.”
But Klarisse is most excited about her rendition of “Paalam Na,” an all-time favorite song. She revealed that during recording, she thought "kahit hindi mo mapantay, dapat mabigyan mo siya ng justice kasi pinagkatiwalaan ka na kantahin 'yung song." Fortunately, the 26-year-old singer nailed it.
Other songs off the album are “Ikaw Ay Ako,” “Sana’y Tumibok Muli,” “Sa Pangarap Na Lang,” “Eto Na Naman Tayo,” and “Mahal Mo Pa Ba Ako.”
Custom-made and challenging
Klarisse is grateful to have been signed by Star Music.
Her album is produced by Rox Santos who says it is a product of tema effort with the aim of highlighting Klarisse’s vocal ability and style.
"Ang boses ni Klang sobrang wide ng range. Pwede natin laruin 'yung kanyang vocal ability kasi kaya niyang kumanta ng mataas, kaya niyang kumanta ng powerful pero hindi lang basta powerful kasi may dynamics 'yung boses niya," he said. "So 'yung napili naming mga kanta ay 'yung pwede niyang laruin at babagay sa kanya."
"Kasi sobra yung dynamics nu'ng boses niya. Kahit alam nating sobrang taas na, andu'n na siya pero meron pa ring part sa kanta na biglang hangin, magre-retain tapos bubuga ulit. 'Yung unique na dynamics na mararamdaman mo talaga sa song," he added. "So merong may laro, may journey kasi unique 'yung voice niya at makapal and tone."
Funny, but the market for her album are both singers and frustrated singers who enjoy singing on karaoke. It can’t be more disparate.
But Klarisse has an explanation.
"Basta kasi nakaka-relate ang tao at na-i-in love na sa ganu'ng klaseng kanta," she said.
Ever unique
How would she differentiate her style from other young female belters, we asked.
"Pare-pareho naman po kaming may unique style pero siguro po 'yung soul po and mas makapal po 'yung boses ko," she said. "Iba-iba po kami ng tunog pero ako po 'yun pinaka-base, lagi po 'yung timbre ko mas makapal pero du'n lang po naiba kasi pare-pareho naman pong magagaling."
Klarisse was five years old when she first joined a singing contest. Prior to making it big, she had competed with the likes of Sarah Geronimo, Jake Zyrus and Angeline Quinto when they were also starting.
"Kaya ang saya po na nagkita-kita kami ngayon dito sa industriya," Klarisse said.
Klarisse admits she still feels nervous before a performance. When it seems to be getting the best of her, she remembers the lessons she has learned along the way.
“As singer pinaka mahalaga ay be humble lagi. 'Wag kang makakalimot sa mga taong tumulong sayo before," she said.
And the world appears like new.
