New set of CREBA officials elected

Charlie A. V. Gorayeb and Noel Toti M. Cariño will lead the Chamber of Real Estate & Builders’ Associations, Inc. (CREBA) as national chairman and national president, respectively, for the years 2018 to 2020. They were elected during the association’s annual general membership meeting held in Mandaluyong City last Jan. 25. Charlie A. V. Gorayeb Charlie A. V. Gorayeb CREBA is the Philippine umbrella organization of real estate and housing industry stakeholders composed of property developers, builders, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers of construction materials, real estate service practitioners and other professionals and entities engaged in over 70 allied fields. With close to 30 chapters and because of its relentless advocacy programs and initiatives, it has become government’s strongest ally in pursuing a truly rational and affordable national housing program. Gorayeb is a 10-termer CREBA national president and has served five prior terms as chairman, earning him inclusion in the Chamber’s Hall of Fame. He holds lifetime recognition by the ASEAN Association for Planning and Housing (AAPH) since 1988, of which he served as VP for the Philippines. In 2016, Gorayeb served as international director of the Chicago-based National Association of Realtors (NAR) which chose CREBA as its exclusive cooperating association in the Philippines since 2011. Cariño is a seasoned real estate businessman elected as Pasig City representative during the 13th Congress. He served as the Chamber’s EVP from 2012-2013, national chairman from 2016-2018 and a prior term as national president for 2014-2016. According to the two CREBA leaders, topping CREBA’s priorities is its long-term advocacy and vision of “A Home for Every Filipino.” “To achieve this, the Chamber is pushing for its five-point agenda for housing,” they said. Noel Toti M. Cariño Noel Toti M. Cariño The five-point agenda has been drafted into various bills to introduce new measures or amend existing laws or pending bills in Congress. These include: (1) long-term and affordable funds for socialized and economic housing; (2) affordable homes for employees in urban areas partly addressed through the passage of Republic Act No. 10884 in 2016, amending for the purpose balanced housing provisions of Republic Act 7279 or the Urban Development and Housing Act (UDHA); (3) equitable allocation of lands through a national land use policy; (4) efficient LGU housing regulations; and the (5) creation of a full-fledged Department of Housing and Urban Development. “CREBA’s proposal demonstrates the clear possibility of addressing the 5.7 million housing backlog and cope up with future demand by achieving an annual housing production target of 500,000 units over a span of 20 years,” Gorayeb and Cariño concluded. The Board of Directors also include Jerry M. Navarrete, vice chairman; Pablo A. Panlilio Jr., EVP; Florante C. Ofrecio, corporate secretary; Ma. Concepcion N. Beltran, treasurer; Anastacio C. Adriano Jr., VP-Finance; Rosemarie C. Basa, VP-Internal; Roberto A. Alvarez Jr., VP-External; Jocelyn V. Yumul, VP-Chapters; Evangeline A. Yia, VP-International; Atty. Antonio M. Bernardo; Melesa D. Chua; Teresita C. Millan; and Engr. Reynaldo Q. Nisce. Other officers are Techie P. Bautista, VP-Academics; Alejandro S. Mañalac, VP-Housing; Lea F. Almiranez, VP-Youth; and Joanna Marie P. Valencia, Public Relations Officer. They will be sworn to office by Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council Chairman Gen. Eduardo D. del Rosario on Feb. 22 at the Dusit Hotel.
