Transcend DrivePro 230 dashcam ramps it up with enhanced footage captures

Dash cameras can make a difference on the road and Transcend stands out as a brand that offers a wide range of variants for the road. One of their latest is the Transcend DrivePro 230 dashcam, an image-capturing dashcam that raises the quality of level of shots.

The Transcend DrivePro 230 dashcam succeeds the DrivePro 220. Both look fairly similar though the former comes with updated software and hardware. The most notable improvement is the Sony Exmor sensor which ramps up the quality of image captures.

The new image sensor accounts can take full HD shots and record 1920x1080 videos at 30 fps. It is more effective in low-light conditions – a point worth considering since the Waterloo of most dashcams these days is the performance during night time. Much of this is credited to the larger pixel area the DrivePro 230 now carries. Videos are captured in MOV format.

The Transcend DrivePro 230 measures 70.2 x 63.1 x 34.5 mm and weighs just 81 grams. The lightweight can be easily mounted on a windshield with the included sucker mount where the long cable can be laid in such a way to reach the 12V power socket of a vehicle.

The dashcam boasts of a 130-degree lens for wider angle captures, most of which can be seen on the 2.4-inch screen. There are four familiar function buttons present at the bottom portion. At the left side is a red button (used to mark a file for permanent storage) and a microSD card slot to insert the included 16 GB microSD card with the package.

Folks who are not too fond of frequently downloading and then deleting videos captured are advised to get higher capacity memory cards since capturing videos (especially at 1080p) may be good for only an hour or two. MicroSD cards of up to 128 GB storage can be used.

Other noteworthy features the Transcend DrivePro 230 include a built-in GPS receiver for proper logging (location, speed and time). It also comes with a DrivePro Toolbox software to properly guide users, especially when it comes to file management.

The Transcend DrivePro 230 also comes with built-in WiFi, meaning users can stream whatever they capture on the road. An exclusive app is needed to make it all work accordingly.

With a better image sensor, the Transcend DrivePro 230 should be a handy and reliable dashcam to have on the road – making sure that all footages are captured with pristine accuracy.
