His impersonation of comedy actress Ruffa Mae Quinto, superstar Nora Aunor and other female celebrities opened doors (with matching bubong and bintana pa ha!) for Boobay to penetrate mainstream TV. He would always have this material on his slot at the Kamalig Comedy Bar in Baguio City and later on, he thought of using it for a GMA 7 audition. (Bumenta si ateng!)
“Gumawa ako ng video nu’ng pag-impersonate ko tapos pinadala ko sa GMA. After a month nakatanggap ako ng text from Direk Cesar Cosme na isa daw ako sa natanggap. Sobrang laki ng utang na loob ko sa kanya dahil naniwala siya sakin,” Boobay recalled. (Pwede pa po kaya ako mag-audition?!)

The Saint Louis University Baguio AB Communications graduate started with guest performances on several Kapuso TV programs until he was given regular gigs on “Unang Hirit” and “Celebrity Bluff.” With all these opportunities, he realized this is the career for him and so he put his dream of becoming a news reporter in the backburner. (Ay, na-try ko na ’yun, keri yang career mo!)
“Sobrang grateful talaga ako kaya I make it a point na lagi akong on time sa set, location or sa studio para walang masabi ang mga ka-trabaho ko at mga boss. Wala akong bilib sa mga taong late,” Boobay said. (Korak! Call time ng 2 p.m. mamaya pero 2 p.m. kinabukasan dumating!)
Even with his busy TV assignments, he maintains his presence in comedy bars. He is a resident performer at Klownz and Zirkoh (from sun up to sun down ang ate mo!): “Gusto ko parehong TV and comedy bar. Magkaiba kasi sila ng audience pero isa ang purpose, makapagpasaya.” (Gusto ko rin pong sumaya at lumigaya!)
He is extra careful with his health after suffering mild stroke last year due to fatigue. He now paces himself for work and puts a premium on rest and leisure. (Ingat po lagi, Madame!)
“Nagpapasalamat talaga ako kina Nay Allan K., Ate gay and to my angels, my loves, Marian Rivera and my partner Kent, my savior. Without them, malamang hindi niyo na ako nakikita ngayon. Sila ang nagligtas sa’kin sa bingit ng kamatayan.” (Mabuhay si Boobay! Mabuhay!!!!)
Years from now, Boobay hopes to achieve this big dream: “Sana nasa Australia na’ko kasama ang partner ko.” (Eto ang tinatawag na tamis-tamisan 2018 and beyond! Push!)
