Rosario, Cavite – The firen that struck two manufacturing facilities at the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) compound here resulted in extensive damage worth billions of pesos, Cavite officials said.
"The (damage) cost is billions to the companies of the HRD Group," Cavite Governor Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said, citing the razed buildings and equipment.
Remulla said no casualties were reported in the conflagration last week that reached Task Force Alpha or fifth alarm.
Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Charito Plaza is expected to render this week an update on the incident.
The fire broke out at the Scad Services Private Limited Company door, window and frame manufacturing facility and the House Technology Industries (HTI) building.
Both the Scad and HTI are under the HRD Group of Companies.
An HTI facility in General Trias City was also gutted down by a fire in February last year.
Six employees perished and over a hundred others were injured.
Management said the workers’ concerns on wages and job placement will be addressed after last week’s fire displaced some 1,000 Scad and HTI factory workers.
Remulla, the Cavite Crisis Management Committee chairman, the Bureau of Fire Protection – Cavite and the Rosario fire station, meantime, said further investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
