DOT sees more tourist arrivals in ARMM

Macabalang Cotabato City – The Department of Tourism in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOT-ARMM) expects more tourist arrivals in the region this year, citing improved amenities and the staging of more colorful festivals in component provinces. DOT-ARMM Secretary Ayesha Vanessa Dilangalen said various regional events lined up in the coming months will have the active participation from domestic and foreign visitors. Among the upcoming major events are the half-month-long Inaul Festival in Maguindanao in February, the Kariyala Festival in Wao, Lanao del Sur on the same month; and the Bud Bongao Day in Tawi-Tawi in March, she said Maguindanao officials have received confirmation about the attendance of locals, as well as foreigners, in the international airsoft gun competition scheduled in the first week of February as a segment of the Inaul Festival in Buluan town. Maguindanao officials renamed the annual Sagayan Festival into Inaul to promote of the age-old production hand-woven fabrics in the province. Dilangalen said the recent completion and opening of the Buluan town boulevard will augur well with the staging of the “One Mindanao” promotion, which will showcase banca races and exquisite lights and draw visitors for the Inaul Festival.
