Man dies of heart attack in hotel room A 56-year-old man died of a heart attack while inside a hotel in Malate, Manila Monday night. SPO3 Richard Escarlan of the Manila Police District (MPD) Crimes Against Persons Investigation Section identified the victim as Luis Avila, resident of Kundol corner Malunggay Streets in Tondo Manila. Initial investigation showed that Avila checked in at room 74 of the hotel with an unidentified woman, who later called the attention of duty manager to ask for emergency assistance about 7:30 p.m. The victim was rushed to Manila Doctor’s Hospital for medical intervention, but he was declared dead on arrival at 8:04 p.m. Doctors said the victim died due to “fatal ventricular arrhythmia secondary to acute coronary syndrome.” Escarlan said the body will undergo autopsy examination. Follow-up investigations are now underway. (Jaimie Rose Aberia) Man with sachet of suspected shabu threatens to kill neighbor A sachet of suspected shabu was allegedly found on a man who reportedly threatened to kill his neighbor in Caloocan City on early this morning. Police identified the man as Emilio Ostares, 31, jobless, a native of Camarines Sur and a resident of Barangay 160, Caloocan City. Barangay officials brought Ostares to Caloocan City Police headquarters around 4 a.m. after he allegedly threatened to kill Estrelita Gatdulla, 40, jobless. He also disrespected the arresting officers from the barangay, police said. However Ostares denied he threatened to kill Gatdulla. Upon frisking, a sachet of suspected shabu was reportedly found on Ostares, reports said. Ostares admitted that the sachet belonged to him but claimed that he was not a drug user. He said he bought the sachet from a known drug pusher, saying he will use it to report to the police the illegal activities in their area. Charges will be filed against Ostares who is now detained at the Caloocan City police detention cell. (Kate Javier) 3 suspected drug peddlers arrested in Pasay City Three suspected drug peddlers were arrested by the Pasay City Police the other day after an anonymous informant phoned the local village chief of Barangay 46 in Pasay regarding the selling of illegal drugs. Police said barangay chairman Nestor Advincula of Barangay 46 received a telephone call from a concerned citizen yesterday afternoon concerning three people who were selling suspected shabu near Lacaba Compound, Tripa de Galina, Tramo, Barangay 46 in Pasay City. Advincula together with his two tanods proceeded to the place which resulted in the arrest of the three suspects: Julieta De Ocampo, 54, resident of Barangay Palanan, Makati City; Albert Ellroy, resident of Barangay 33, Pasay City; and Teresita Davas, 54, resident of the said area.. Initial investigation revealed that upon the arrival of the chairman and his two tanods in the area, police said they saw one of the suspects, De Ocampo, secretly drop a heat-sealed sachet of suspected shabu to the ground. After accosting the suspects, they recovered several drug paraphernalia including a lighter, and a piece of rolled and stripped aluminum foil. A case in violation of Section 11 Article 2, of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act for possession of illegal drugs will be filed against De Ocampo. (Dhel Nazario)
