Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada on Tuesday said he will not grant the vendors’ clamor to allow them to occupy tourist destinations such as Baywalk and Rizal Park.

“Gusto ko man silang tulungan, pero lalabag naman tayo sa batas…kaya hindi ko sila pinahihintulutan na magtinda doon, (Even if I would like to help them, that would mean breaking the law…so I cannot allow them to sell there),” Estrada said.
Estrada said that he has rejected the vendors’ request to allow them at the tourist belt of Manila to free them from obstructions.
Estrada used to allow vendors to operate in Luneta and Baywalk upon the request of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which came up with a livelihood program to provide vendors with uniform food carts.
The program, however, failed and Estrada said they did not allow vendors in the area since then.
