QC gov't office now open on weekends to accept business permit applications

By Chito Chavez The Quezon City government office will now be open during Saturdays and Sundays to accept business permit applications. Garry Domingo chief of the city’s Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) said his office will be open on weekends from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while during weekdays the BPLO can accommodate applicants from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (MANILA BULLETIN) (MANILA BULLETIN) At present there are at least 60,000 business establishments in the city as the number of businessmen transacting business in Quezon City is the largest in the country. To improve efficiency, Domingo said his office has now opened five counters to cater to the needs of varying business permit applicants. He said there is also a special line and attending cashier for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Domingo pleaded anew like in the past years to the public to pay their business taxes in the city early to avoid the payment rush which sometimes turned chaotic as the bulk of the taxpayers settle their obligations on the January 20 deadline. For those renewing their business permits, Domingo reminded them to prepare the required documents like barangay clearance, 2017 business permit, receipt of the payment made in the zoning clearance and fire certificate. Domingo said applicants who fail to meet the January 20 deadline for the renewal of business permits will be charged with a 25-percent penalty and additional 2 percent every month of nonpayment. Likewise, Domingo noted the public could avail of the 20-percent discount if the payment of their real property taxes is settled before March 31. To further improve the system of tax payment, Domingo said the city government had opened a concierge service for business startups. Starting 2018, for the convenience of those applying for a mayor's permit to do business, Domingo said his office will now offer the services of a concierge where the needs of the applicants will be processed for their convenience. Domingo warned that the city government will not process the application with incomplete documents. “This should serve as a reminder to ease public inconvenience during the payment of taxes at the Quezon City Hall. Please settle your obligations at the soonest time possible,’’ he added.
