After breakthrough WTA win, Eala jumps to No. 61 in WTA live rankings

Alex Eala is expected to receive a significant boost in her Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles ranking following her breakthrough title win at the Guadalajara 125 Open in Mexico over the weekend.
The 20-year-old Filipina climbed to No. 61 in the live rankings after her victory, a notable jump from No. 75 following her second-round exit at the 2025 US Open last week.
Although still five spots shy of her career-high ranking of No. 56 set in late June, the rise in her standings serves as a major confidence boost heading into her upcoming campaigns.
Eala clinched her maiden WTA title at the expense of Hungarian Panna Udvardy, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, ending years of unsuccessful attempts including at the Eastbourne Open -- a WTA250 event -- last June, where she lost to Maya Joint in her first WTA finals appearance.
Prior to this milestone, Eala had collected five singles titles and three doubles crowns on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) circuit.
Still riding high after becoming the first Filipina to win a WTA title, Eala is set to return to action at the Sao Paulo Open in Brazil this week
The top Filipina player is seeded third in this WTA250 tournament this time and is scheduled to face a qualifier in the opening round.
World No. 22 and local bet Beatriz Haddad Maia banners the 32-player field that also has world No. 74 Solana Sierra from Argentina, two-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist Ajla Tomljanovic, world No. 82 Renata Zarazua and Eala’s victims as the Guadalajara Open -- Udvardy and Arianne Hartono.
Meanwhile, the Rafa Nadal Academy where Eala has been honing her skills over the last years congratulated her on her latest feat.
“What a night in Guadalajara! After dropping the first set, Alex roared back with all her heart to defeat Udvardy and claim her first WTA singles title!” the academy posted on social media.
“She’s now the first Filipino -- man or woman -- to win a WTA singles. Goosebumps. Pure pride,” it added.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) also lauded Eala’s achievement.
“CHAMPION! Alex Eala conquers the court and captures the WTA 2025 Guadalajara Open title! A historic win for the Philippines and a new milestone in her rising legacy,” it posted on social media.
