2-year-old kid hurt as tornado hits 7 houses in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY – A two-year-old child sustained minor abrasions after a tornado hit seven houses in La Castellana, and one family in E.B. Magalona in Negros Occidental on Friday.

Dr. Zeaphard Caelian, head of Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD), said on Sunday that five houses were destroyed in Sitio Old Manghanoy, while two others were destroyed and damaged in Sitio Hiniwan in Barangay Manghanoy, La Castellana town, citing a report from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Caelian said that six families composed of 18 persons, including two senior citizens and nine children were affected by the tornado.

An estimated P50,000 worth of damage to infrastructures was reported in La Castellana town. No injuries were reported.

In E.B. Magalona town, one of the four families in Barangay Consing was also affected by tornado. A child was reported hurt with minor injuries.

Caelian said that strong winds brought by localized thunderstorms caused the occurrence of tornado.

The local government units had already extended financial assistance to the affected residents, as well as food and other basic necessities.
