Mass in honor of St. Mary Magdalene set July 22

Antipolo Auxiliary Bishop Noli Buco will preside over a high mass at 9 a.m. tomorrow, July 22, at the St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Pililla, Rizal, in solemn observance of the Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene.

In compliance with government protocol, only 50 persons will be allowed inside the church, which has been classified a historical structure by the National Historical Institute.

The elderly and all those who cannot physically join the celebration are advised to join the Holy Mass online.

Commemorative masses to honor St. Mary Magdalene will also be offered in Kawit, Cavite, Negros Occidental, Palanan, Isabela, and in Calumpit, Bulacan.

In the Bible, Magdalene is the sister of Saints Martha and Lazarus, close friends of Jesus.

Magdalene, also known as Mary of Magdala, was mentioned in the Bible as the woman, who “filled with repentance, washed Jesus’ feet with her tears, dried them with her hair, and anointed them with expensive oil.”

When Jesus was crucified, Magdalene stood with the Blessed Mother and St. John at the foot of the cross and remained with them until Jesus’ body was taken down and laid in a tomb.

She was also the first to discover the Resurrection of Christ.
