An active inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ), or the converging of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, will continue to produce intermittent periods of rain showers and thunderstorms over most part of the country within 24 hours.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said the ITCZ is currently affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may be felt in Quezon province, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, and Masbate within the next 24 hours.

As of Saturday morning, Ordinario noted the presence of thick clouds over western Luzon causing the formation of "nocturnal" thunderstorms.

These thunderstorms usually form in the evening and mostly occur during the southwest monsoon or "habagat" season that affect Luzon, including Metro Manila, Ordinario explained.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies in the morning with high chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening due to the localized thunderstorms and ITCZ.

Ordinario said the low pressure area (LPA) near Batanes has already dissipated on Friday evening but due to the active ITCZ, PAGASA is not ruling out the possibility of another LPA developing east of Quezon province within the next few hours. 

However, he said it is less likely that a tropical cyclone may develop or enter inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the next two to three days.

So far, four tropical cyclones namely Dindo, Enteng, Ferdie, and Gener have entered or formed inside the PAR this August. None of these, however, have made landfall over the country.
