CEBU CITY – The province of Bohol has banned live hogs, pork, and pork products from Cebu City and Cebu province due to the threat of African Swine Fever.
Gov. Aris Aumentado issued Executive Order (EO) No. 11 prohibiting their entry on Tuesday, March 7, after ASF cases were detected in 11 barangays in Carcar City, Cebu.
Aumentado stated that the entry of transport vehicles and carriers coming from Cebu province and Cebu City shall be allowed only at the port areas in Bohol.
“The entry of imported pork meat passing through the island-province of Cebu shall be allowed entry into the province of Bohol provided the boxes and package shall be opened only in a National Meat Inspection Services-accredited cold storage facilities in Bohol,” Aumentado said.
Aumentado said he issued the EO to protect the P6-billion hog industry and the 46,000 hog raisers in Bohol.
“I am appealing to everyone to cooperate and help our hog industry from the threats of ASF because now, Bohol is the only remaining province that is ASF-free,” said Aumentado.
Aumentado said the province is serious in its campaign against ASF.
“We consulted with various stakeholders before we issued the EO. This is necessary to protect the province’s hog industry,” Aumentado said.
