Makati City Mayor Abby Binay on Monday, May 16, said that she aims to focus more on improving the city's health services for Makatizens and its transportation situation during her last term as mayor.
Binay first said that the city's Makati Life Medical Center, formerly known as Ospital ng Makati 2 (OsMak 2), was designed to be "pandemic-proof" and is able to respond to various medical needs of the public.
Located in Malugay, Barangay Bel-Air in District 1, the P9.77 billion hospital with 360 beds and multiple specialty centers will be rolled out in phases. Partial operations are expected within the first half of 2022 with the opening of a 24/7 primary and urgent care facility.
Makati Life will also start in-patient services with the first 100 beds toward the end of the year. Full completion of its 360-bed and 192-clinic total capacity is targeted by the first quarter of 2024.
The Makati City government contributed P2.77 billion worth of assets, while LifeNurture obtained a total of P7 billion in equity and debt funding for the project.
Makati Life is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that include a Cancer Center with a linear accelerator for radiation treatment; a Cardiac Center with a cardiac catheterization lab for angiography, open heart surgery, and organ transplantation surgeries; and a Physical Rehabilitation Medical Center that will use robotics in treating joint and soft tissue ailments.
Aside from the Makati Life Medical Center, Binay added that her administration will also put more focus on upgrading the barangay health centers of the city. She also said that the city has previously opened the East Rembo lying-in clinic located at East Rembo Multipurpose building to ensure that pregnant women have easy access to clinics for their pregnancy needs and the delivery of their child.
The said clinic is Makati's fourth lying-in clinic that is open 24-hours.
Makati Subway
Aside from improving Makati's health care services, the mayor said that she also aims to accomplish the Makati Subway, her administration's biggest legacy infrastructure project in the city.
Binay explained that the subway project will make the journey of commuters fast and convenient because of its 700,000 passenger ferrying capability every day.
The subway is also said to be connected to various transportation points in Metro Manila such as the Pasig River Ferry Service, MRT Line 3, and even the Metro Manila Subway that is currently being built.
Binay said that in its first year of operation, 12 subway cars will be used with an estimated 3-6 minutes turnaround time. It will also be operational for 18 hours a day which will definitely help nigh shift workers working in the Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) industry.
The mayor added that the subway project will help decrease 270,000 vehicles on the road by 2048, mitigating Makati's carbon dioxide emissions by 2.3 million tons.
