Motorists, commuters caught in traffic standstill as heavy rains cause flooding in Metro Manila anew

Motorists and commuters were caught in a traffic standstill in some parts of Manila on Friday night, Aug. 5, as heavy rains proved too much for the drainage system and eventually caused widespread flooding.

Based on the monitoring of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), flood at Kalaw/Roxas Boulevard was gutter deep both at the north and southbound at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Gutter-deep flood was also monitored at Quirino/Roxas Boulevard as well as at the Pedro Gil/Roxas Boulevard.

Other roads became impassable for light vehicles, one of them was at the corner of Quirino Avenue and Taft Avenue.

As a result, hundreds of commuters, mostly workers on their way home from work, were also reported to have been stranded due to lack of public utility vehicles.

Some passenger jeepneys has to traverse flooded streets while some commuters were forced to take tricycles to get out of the flooded streets.

The MMDA also reported flooding in other parts of Metro Manila.
