3,000 sick Manila seniors receive cash assistance from LGU

More than 3,000 residents suffering from various kinds of illnesses have been given monetary assistance by Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan through her "People's Day" program.

According to the city government, the program has been held on a regular basis in Manila City Hall since Lacuna-Pangan assumed office in 2022.

The recipients of the financial aid from the mayor are mostly cancer and dialysis patients.

She said that while the amount being handed over to the ill residents is not enough to last them up to the end of their medical treatments, the cash aid is expected to help them with their laboratories and other medical tests.

The "People's Day" is being conducted by the mayor through her another program "Kalinga sa Maynila" where she brings the heads of various departments, bureaus and offices of the Manila City Hall to every barangay.

After Kalinga program, the mayor and Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto, would personally visit bed-ridden residents in their homes to provide them cash assistance.

As a doctor, Mayor Lacuna-Pangan also personally checks on the medical condition of the residents she visits to determine the kind of medical help they particularly need.

Apart from this, the mayor would also visit the homes of centenarians in Manila to personally deliver checks amounting to P100,000 as incentive from the local government of Manila for those who have reached 100 years old.
