Partly cloudy skies with a chance of rain showers likely across the Philippines

Most of the country may experience “fair” weather conditions due to partly cloudy to cloudy skies, but isolated rain showers may still occur, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Aug. 22.

PAGASA said that warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as easterlies, may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.

Similar weather conditions may prevail over the rest of the country, with isolated rain showers most likely in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA outside the Philippine area of responsibility has developed into a tropical storm, which has been given an international name Shanshan.

Shanshan, located 2,140 kilometers east of Central Luzon, is not expected to affect any part of the country, Estareja added.
