LOBO, Batangas – This town has been placed under a state of calamity due to the threat of African Swine Fever (ASF).

The Sangguniang Bayan or municipal council approved a resolution on Wednesday, August 7, declaring the measure that was revealed in a meeting with over 500 hog raisers here.
Seventeen out of 26 barangays in this town have reported cases of ASF in hog farms.
About 8,000 pigs have been slaughtered and buried to prevent the further spread of ASF.
Hog raisers have sought the help of the government due to losses amounting to P103 million.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) said that two other towns in Batangas are also affected by ASF.
The Municipal Agriculture Office here announced that checkpoints will be conducted by the police, local government unit, and military to prevent infected pigs from being transported outside this town.
Mass testing of pigs has been scheduled. All pigs that test negative will be transported outside of Batangas to save them.
