
A total of 60,256.88 metric tons (MT) of fish were caught in various ports nationwide in April, marking the highest fish unloading volume in the recorded history of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA).
The PFDA noted that the catch in April showed a nine percent increase compared to March.
“All RFPs [regional fishports] experienced a significant jump in their month-on-month records,” the PFDA said in a statement on Friday, May 24.
Per the data of the agency, the PFDA – General Santos Fish Port Complex (PFDA-GSFPC) and the PFDA – Navotas Fish Port Complex (PFDA-NFPC) led in total fish unloading.
“The two largest PFDA ports unloaded 28,027.19 MT (4.17 percent increase) and 23,344.29 MT (10.82 percent increase) of fish, respectively,” it stated.
The PFDA – Bulan Fish Port Complex (PFDA-BFPC) and the PFDA – Lucena Fish Port Complex (PFDA-LFPC) maintained positive trends in fish unloading this April.
Records showed that Luzon ports delivered 3,152.15 MT (30.1 percent increase) and 2,030.36 MT (20.31 percent increase) of fish to their clients and stakeholders.
The agency reported that the PFDA – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) has shown a steady increase in monthly fish unloading volume since the beginning of the year, with the sole Visayas port unloading 2,570.82 MT (12.39 percent increase) of fish this April.
Meanwhile, the PFDA – Zamboanga Fish Port Complex (PFDA-ZFPC) and the PFDA – Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) logged 752.43 MT (12.63 percent increase) and 307.03 MT (41.77 percent increase) of fishery and non-fishery products.
The PFDA – Sual Fish Port (PFDA-SFP) and the PFDA – Camaligan Fish Port (PFDA-CFP) showed significant recovery from the previous month, with 69.93 MT (185.43 percent increase) and 2.68 MT (68.9 percent increase) of fish delivered to their consumers.
